Box Score FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (11-10, 7-6 CAC) completed the regular season sweep over Stevenson University (6-16, 2-11 CAC) and moved into within a half-game of third place in the Capital Athletic Conference with a lopsided 87-46 win Saturday evening on Senior Night at the Odom Fitness Center.
Hood opened up a 41-17 halftime lead and shot a combined 54.1 percent for the game to improve to 8-1 at the Odom Fitness Center this season. All but one of the 14 Blazers to check into the game contributed to the scoring, led by first-year Cameron Cook's 20 points.
Junior LaVar Rich matched his career-high with 13 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots off the bench. Classmate Brenden Straughn set a new career-high with nine assists and contributed 12 points.
The senior tandem of Reco Siler and Tyler Snoots, who were recognized before the contest, combined for 14 points and 12 rebounds, but neither starter logged more than 20 points on this night as Hood received contributions from its entire bench.
Ryan Joyce saw his first action of the season, finishing with three points, while Edward Thomas chipped in two rebounds, two assists and went 1-of-2 from the foul line. Luis Cotto drilled a three-pointer and dished an assist in 10 minutes of work while Derrick Buadum picked off a pair of steals and handed out an assist.
Hood sits in fifth place in the CAC and trails the University of Mary Washington and York College (Pa.); both programs tied for third at 7-5. The Blazers play their final nonconference game of the season Monday at Penn State-Mont Alto before heading to Mary Washington Wednesday and Marymount University Saturday. Hood defeated both the Eagles, 65-56, and the Saints, 68-57, at home earlier this season.
