Box Score READING, Pa.--The Hood College men's soccer team (3-9-2, 0-7-0 Commonwealth) fell to the Alvernia University Crusaders (8-6-3, 3-4-0 Commonwealth) by a final of 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Conference match.
The Blazers trailed just 1-0 at halftime after surrendering Michael Andrei's third goal of the season in the 37th minute. Ryan Deuber kept the Blazers in it in the opening stanza by making three saves in net. In the second half, Hood matched the Crusader shot count as each squad attempted five strikes, but Alvernia was able to cash in on two of them--by Kyle Martin in the 57th minute and Nate Swarr in the 67th minute.
Joey Fontanez booted three shots, including one on target while Eric Diehl, Benjamin Crossen and Ian McDonald had one shot apiece for Hood. Both squads were awarded three corner kicks in the match but Alvernia ended up with a 12-6 shot advantage on the day.
The Blazers wrap up the 2012 season next week with a pair of league matchups. Hood travels to familiar foe Stevenson University (7-9, 2-4 Commonwealth) for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday before concluding its slate Saturday against Lycoming College (4-9-2, 1-6-1 Commonwealth) at 1:30 p.m. The Blazers will recognize graduating seniors Nick Berry, Matt Voorhis and Will Lane prior to Saturday's contest.
