FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College men's soccer team (2-0-2) defeated Shenandoah University (2-4) 1-0 at home Tuesday afternoon. The win gave the Blazers its best start in program history, as it has yet to lose a game in its first four contests for the first time.

Junior David Langan scored the lone goal of the game in the eighth minute to preserve the victory. Hood has made a habit of jumping on opposing teams early this season, as this is the third game this season that Hood has scored in the first ten minutes of the fixture. It makes it very difficult for opposing teams to come back when they have to face an early deficit and the Blazers continue to put that pressure on its opponents. Langan made a great run down the left flank to get into good position and was fed brilliantly by junior Eric Diehl on a long ball over the top of the Hornets defense. Langan's first touch did not let him down as he had a positive touch towards goal and finished with composure at the back post with his left foot.

Hood sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Deuber also had a quality game as he has clearly distinguished himself as the Blazers number one in goal. Deuber picked up his third clean sheet of the season and he has been the starter in all three of those games. Deuber made eight saves on the afternoon and was a little fortunate to be saved by the wood work on a Shenandoah shot in the last ten minutes. Shenandoah outshot the Blazers 22-6 and Shenandoah goalkeeper James Dutcher made one save on the afternoon.

The Blazers were once again very stout defensively as senior Matt Voorhis and junior Nickolas May provided adequate cover and the midfield won enough 50-50 balls to keep the Hornets attack at bay. When asked how the win felt Voohris said, "We battled hard as a team and it might not have been pretty, but it was very rewarding to get the victory in a hard fought battle."

The Blazers have the next week off, which should help them get their legs back. The team will return to action next Wednesday when they host McDaniel College at 4 p.m.
