Hood Beaten at Home by Arcadia, 67-63

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College men's basketball team (10-9, 4-8 Commonwealth) was defeated by Arcadia University (12-7, 7-5 Commonwealth) 67-63 at BB&T Arena Saturday afternoon. It was the Blazers fourth straight conference defeat and it leaves Hood searching for answers on what has gone wrong the last four games.

Junior guard Cameron Cook paced the Blazers with 13 points off 4-11 shooting. The Knights blanketed Cook for the entire first half, as all of Cook's points came in the second stanza. Sophomore forward Reggie Daniels had a very stellar game for the Blazers, scoring 11 points on 4-7 shooting from the floor. Daniels also made life difficult for the Knights on the defensive end with three blocks and four rebounds to his name. Hood had a very tough time though matching the athleticism of Arcadia, who was led in scoring by Khalief Trawick's 18 points. Arcadia had four starters in double-figures and their up and down play ended up being too much for Hood to contend with.

Hood started the first half slowly, as Arcadia quickly jumped out to a nine point lead in the first seven minutes of the game. Hood was able to claw its way back though, in large part due to the bench. That was never more apparent than when freshman James Brown had a powerful dunk that raised the decibel level at BB&T Arena dramatically. As a team Hood's bench outscored Arcadia's 14-2 in the first half to really contribute getting the blue and grey back into the contest.

Hood was able to take a 32-30 lead into intermission, however they were not able to keep the lead in the second half.

Cook got on the board with a made three to give Hood a 37-35 lead at the 17:29 mark of the second half. Arcadia would answer in the form of two Trawick layups, however forward Jeremy Veres hit three layups of his own to make it a 50-48 game with 9:55 left to play. A Terell Buyck three on Hood's next possession gave Hood a 51-50 lead, while Cook also hit another three at the 6:24 mark to give the Blazers a 54-52 advantage and belief that they were going to get a much needed victory.

Arcadia would answer though with a three point shot by Travis Saltus that silenced the home crowd and give Arcadia a 55-54 lead. Hood would go on a major shooting drout the rest of the way, scoring just five points during a crucial six minute stretch. Arcadia made the home team pay with a 15-5 run that for all intents and purposes ended any chance Hood had at winning the contest.

The Blazers return to action this Wednesday when they hit the road to take on conference foe Lebanon Valley. The game is set to begin at 8 p.m.
