Box Score GLENSIDE, Pa.--Sophomore Briana Lee came off the bench to register a season-high 14 points but it was not enough as the Hood College women's basketball team (4-7, 2-3 Commonwealth) lost to the Arcadia University Knights (8-5, 1-5 Commonwealth) by a margin of 69-50 Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Conference contest.
Lee made 4-of-10 from the field and 2-of-5 from distance to pace the Blazers. Shakara Head finished with nine points and matched two career-highs with five blocks and a game-high 12 rebounds. Dyanna Prater chipped in seven points and four boards while Heather Boyce netted a season-high five points, a block and a steal. Verkia Smith netted three season-highs in scoring (4), rebounds (5) and assists (2).
Arcadia finished with three players in double figures and led wire-to-wire on the day. After trailing by 12 at the halftime break (35-23), Hood managed to cut the deficit in half after a layup by Olivia Hosch and two free throws by Briana Lee to make it a six-point game, 38-32, at the 17:10 mark of the second half. The two teams traded baskets over the next few possessions, but with the margin at seven with 12:30 to play (44-37), Arcadia strung together an 11-0 run over a span of 4:18 to go up 55-37. Hood got no closer than 15 the rest of the way.
Samantha Caligiuri led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-19 shooting for the Knights while Morgan Wensley had 13 and Dominique Hassinger had 12.
Hood hits the road once again Monday for its final nonconference matchup of the season at Hollins University. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
