Box Score CHESTER, Pa. - Juliano Pillari (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute, as the Hood College men's soccer team picked up a Commonwealth Conference win over the Widener Pride tonight.
The Blazers improve to 2-1-1 in the conference.
Pillari scored his fourth goal of the year when he stole a pass and, from outside the 18-yard box, arched the shot over the goalie's head for the win.
Hood trailed early in the game when Tori Remondelli one-timed a shot into the right corner after collecting a corner kick from Zac Furia in the eighth minute.
Eric Diehl (Gaithersburg, Md. / Damascus) tied the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute on a breakaway, for his third goal of the season. The 2012 All-Commonwealth midfielder was fed on a through ball from Pillari.
The Blazers were not done just quite yet, and in the 38th minute Joseph Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) scored his second goal in as many games to give the visitors the 2-1 halftime lead. The Pride could not clear the ball and the freshman stole it in the box and buried the shot into the right corner.
Widener threatened in the 42nd minute, but Ian McDonald (Elkton, Md. / Northeast) made one of his five saves for Hood, to preserve the lead.
The Pride did not wait long into the second half to tie the score when Zac Furia put home a rebound off a McDonald save in the 56th minute.
Both teams traded shots until regulation ended, and then Pillari ended it just six minutes into the extra time. The Blazers have played in three overtime games this year, with two going into double overtime, and are 2-0-1.
Hood outshot the Widener 17-15, and Jakub Valdner made seven saves for the hosts.
