ANNVILLE, Pa. – A pair of second half goals by Lebanon Valley were too much for Hood to overcome in a 2-0 final in Commonwealth Conference action.

The two squads battled through a scoreless first half before the Dutchmen broke through early in the 55th minute. Connor McDonald took a pass through the middle from Cam Alexander and put it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, Alexander was fouled in the box after a corner kick and converted the ensuing penalty kick for a two-goal advantage.

The Blazers kept the pressure over the remainder of the contest, but were unable to chip into the lead. Just 35 seconds after the second goal, Kyle Shields (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) uncorked a shot on net that was turned away by James Clements. Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) had two of his team-high five shots down the stretch and Eric Diehl (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) also had a scoring opportunity.

Ian McDonald (Elkton, Md./North East) made his third consecutive start for Hood in goal.  

While the Blazers were outshot 16-9 in the game, the Hood defense allowed just two shots on goal. 

Hood entered the game in a five-team logjam for third place in the Commonwealth at 2-2-1, giving all five squads seven points (three points per win, one per tie). Lycoming and Arcadia also fell on Wednesday, while Alvernia picked up a win to stay in third place with 10 points. The Dutchmen's victory bumped them to seven points to tie the Blazers, Warriors, Knights and Stevenson. The Mustangs play later this evening.

The top five teams in the final regular season standings earn bids to the conference tournament.
