Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Four goals in a six minute span in the first half doomed the Hood men's soccer team as the Messiah College Falcons won 6-1 in Commonwealth Conference action.
The Blazers lost their first conference game of the year and drop to 1-1 in the league.
Joshua Wood scored the first goal in the ninth minute when he gathered up a loose ball and found a way into the box and fired home the shot. Wood scored his second of the game to make it 3-0 when won the battle in the box and used his head to redirect a cross by Drew Fay.
The Blazers could not get on the scoreboard until the 73rd minute when Joey Fontanez (Severna Park, Md. / Chesapeake) fired a shot off the post and in for his third goal of the year.
Hood's goalie tandem of Ryan Deuber (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) and Ian McDonald (Elkton, Md. / Northeast) made 10 saves, while facing 16 shots. Deuber was credited with seven stops in the first half, while McDonald made three in the final 45 minutes. The three Messiah keepers faced two shots and made one save.
The Blazers return to action when they face off against the Albright College Lions on October 12, the team's first road conference game of the season.
