FREDERICK, Md. – Hood College's Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) was part of four wins as the Blazers knocked off visiting King's College 165-90.
In addition to Fogarty's four victories, Shannon McHale (Hauppage, N.Y. / Hauppauge), Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin), and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) were each credited with three wins. In all, nine different Hood swimmers won individual or relay events.
McHale, Shannon Welch (Henderson, Nev. / Las Vegas Academy of the Arts), Fogarty and Theresa Schwarzwalder (Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) teamed to swim a winning time of 1:57.76 in the 200-medley relay to start the meet.
Forgarty added individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, and 200-yard individual medley to her afternoon. She swam a 2:02.48 to defeat Griffin by nearly four seconds in the 200 free. In the 200 fly, she swam past McHale for the win in 2:21.28. She scored her third 200 IM win of the year to finish her day, winning in 2:20.48.
Fay won the 1,000-yard freestyle in her first try this season, finishing in 11:25.27. She later took the 100-yard backstroke in 1:04.45, with Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) second in 1:06.83. She won the 500-yard freestyle for the third time in 2013-14, touching the wall in 5:33.10. Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church) was second in the 500.
Griffin won consecutive events for her two individual wins. She sprinted a 26.49 in the 50-yard free style, with Hayley Rogers (Sandwich, Ill. / Brunswick (Md.)) and Lessard giving the Blazers the 1-2-3 sweep. Griffin followed with a 56.64 in the 100-yard freestyle for the win.
In the 200-yard backstroke, McHale edged out Lessard for the victory. McHale touched in 2:20.17, only 0.82 ahead of Lessard. McHale later took home the win in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.71. It was her third win of the year in the event.
Hood finished off the meet with the win in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Griffin, Rogers, Lessard, and Langer combined for a 1:47.00.
The Blazers improved to 6-3 on the season and 5-2 against Middle Atlantic Conference foes.
Hood travels to the Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for the Diamond City Invitational on November 23-24.
