WESTMINSTER, Md. – Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) earned the only victory for the Hood College women's swimming team in a non-conference 67-28 loss to local rival McDaniel College.
Fogarty led the way in the 1000-yard freestyle touching the wall ten seconds ahead the competition in 11:17.17. She also placed second in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:19.43, less than half a second behind the winner.
Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) each had two second place finishes in their respective races. In the 200-yard freestyle, Fay swam a time of 2:04.88 and a time of 5:36.96 in the 500-yard freestyle. Griffin finished the 50-yard freestyle in 26.08, and touched the wall in 56.23 competing in the 100-yard freestyle.
Shannon McHale (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) was the only other Blazer to place in multiple events, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 100-yard butterfly. In the backstroke she touched the wall in 1:04.09, and she swam a 1:04.29, just missing out on second place, in the butterfly.
Lindsay Cronin (Arlington, Va. / Washington & Lee) finished third behind Fogarty in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:06.62. Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church) placed third behind Fay in the 500 free with a 6:02.73.
Hayley Rogers (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) finished 0.03 behind Griffin in the 50 free with a time of 26.11. Shannon Welch (Henderson, Nev. / Las Vegas Academy of the Arts) placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:19.33.
Hood will be off until 2014, when the team returns to the Huntsinger Aquatics Center to face Albright University on January 4 at 2 p.m.
