Box Score FREDERICK. Md. - A pair of second half goals downed Hood College as Goucher College took the season opener 2-0 this afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field. After both teams battled through a physical first half, Gopher forward Parker Bay fired the shot into the net after a barrage of shots just 35 seconds into the half.
Junior goalkeeper Ryan Deuber faced 21 shots, but with help of the Blazer defensive efforts only seven were on target, four of which were saved by the keeper. Unfortunately, the offense could not muster many attempts throughout the 90 minutes. The best chances for the Blazers came in the first half, as the team got off five shots.
Around 12 minutes after the first goal, midfielder Tate Becker extended the lead with a header that found the bottom right corner from Nate Margolis' free kick from 30 yards out.
The Blazers return to the pitch on September 4th as they travel to Mt. Aloysius to face the Mounties at 4:30.
