Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) assisted on the game's first goal, then scored the game winner in the 59th minute to lead Hood College past Shenandoah 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer action.
Reserve Ryan Tutzauer (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) came off the bench early in the match and was on the receiving end of Demich's helper to put Hood on top 1-0 late in the 21st minute for his first career score.
The advantage lasted less than nine minutes, however, as Eduardo Santiago took an assist from Tommy Scott to tie the score early in the 30th minute for the Hornets.
With the score knotted at 1-1, Demich did the work himself and scored unassisted in the middle of the 59th minute. The freshman's first career tally proved to be the game-winner.
Hood held the advantage on shots 15-5 and had 11 corners, compared to just two for Shenandoah.
The Blazer defense held the Hornets without a shot over a span of 46:02 over the final eight minutes of the first half until the 83rd minute.
Ryan Deuber (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) made a pair of saves for Hood, while Rodrigo Casteriana made seven stops in the Hornet's net.
The victory pulled the Blazers with a win of .500 at 2-3 on the year, while Shenandoah dropped to 0-7.
Hood looks to stay in the win column on Saturday, September 21, when the Blazers head to Juniata for another non-conference match.
