Box Score HUNTINGTON, Pa. - Hood College dropped a 3-1 final at Juniata in non-conference men's soccer action.
The Blazers' goal came from Mitchell Mattox (Pasadena, Md. / Chesapeake) off a loose ball after a free kick in the 81st minute, the first goal in a Hood uniform for the sophomore.
The two teams looked to head into halftime in a scoreless tie, but the Eagles' Patrick McEvoy scored with an assist from Nick Stone-Weiss in 43rd minute for a 1-0 Juniata lead.
In the second half, the Eagles scored twice in a 13 minute stretch to put the game out of reach. Dan Meyer-Amvilla scored in the 55th minute with the help of Aaron Kulig and Stone-Weiss made it 3-0 in the 68th minute.
The Blazers finally broke through with less than 10 minutes to play, but it was not enough. Hood had three more scoring chances down the stretch, but shots by Ian Jenkins (Waldorf, Md. / Bishop McNamara), Mattox and Joseph Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) were off the mark.
Ian McDonald (Elkton, Md. / Northeast) got the nod in goal for the Blazers, making nine saves.
Jonathan Phillips stopped eight shots for the Eagles.
Juniata held a narrow advantage in shots over Hood, 22-19.
Hood returns to Thomas Athletic Field on September 25 for a non-conference match with Frostburg State at 4 p.m.
