Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College won for the seventh time in the last eight games with a nail-biting 61-60 win over visiting Albright.
Cameron Cook (Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall) scored a team-high 18 points, knocking down 5-of-9 field goals. The senior wing went 4-of-8 from 3-point range and added two steals and a block to his evening. Justin Bowens (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) tied for the team lead with seven rebounds and reached double figures with 11 points.
The Blazers never trailed in the final nine minutes of the game, but could not build their lead past five points.
After Kyle Jordan tied the score at 50-50 with 3:51 to go, Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) made a jumper in the paint to reclaim the lead for Hood.
With 2:07 to play, the Lions' Sam Marrella missed the second of two free throws Chris Cook (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) stretched the Blazers' lead to three, 54-51, 35 seconds later.
Jay Burke (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) calmly sank a pair of free throws with just 41 seconds remaining for a five-point lead, 57-52.
Hill followed up a Pedro Perez bucket with a pair of foul shots to take the lead back to five at 59-54 with just 22 ticks left on the clock. Perez sank a three five seconds later to chop the deficit to 59-57.
With Albright forced to foul, Cameron Cook hit both free throws for a four-point advantage, 61-57 with 13 seconds to go. Another three by the Lions cut it to one and Albright had a shot at the win, but a 30-foot heave at the buzzer was off the mark.
The game was a defensive struggle from the outset as Albright took a 19-18 lead into halftime. Neither team shot better than 33 percent in the opening 20 minutes of action.
For Hood, Burke matched Bowens with seven boards. Reggie Daniels (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) blocked three shots, gving him eight in the past two contests.
The Blazers were 22-of-32 from the free throw line, while Albright was awarded just 18 foul shots and converted just nine.
Perez had a game-high 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jordan hauled in 12 boards and Marrella was credited with 12 points.
Hood starts a two-game road swing with a contest at Widener on Saturday, January 18.
