FREDERICK, Md. - On Senior Day for the Hood College women's swimming team, the Blazers defeated the Davis & Elkins Senators 127-59, this afternoon at the Huntsinger Aquatics Center.
The lone female senior, Daniela Mittelkamp (Parkville, Md. / Catholic) was honored before the meet and finished her four-year career with third and fourth place finishes. Her third came in the 100-yard breaststroke when she touched the wall in 1:30.02. She finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:15.12.
Hood swimmers won five individual events, and added two victories in the relays. Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) led the way with two wins and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay. The relay team of Fogarty, Shannon McHale (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge), Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick), and Hayley Rogers (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) finished in 1:57.13. Fogarty touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.24, and finished her day winning the 500-yard freestyle in 5:31.84.
Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin), Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church) , and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) all had single wins for the Blazers, and were part of a winning relay team. The trio, along with Theresa Schwarzwalder (Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake), won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:53.35. Fay added a win in the 100-yard backstroke, leading to a Hood 1-2-3 finish, with a time of 1:05.08. Langer started another 1-2-3 finish with a win the 100-yard freestyle in 59.14, and Griffin led the final 1-2-3 finish with the victory in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.80).
Lessard was second place in the 200 free (2:08.07) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.12). Rogers added another pair of second place finishes, the first of which came in the 50-yard freestlye with a time of 25.99. The time just missed first place by 0.03. In the 100 free, she was second to Langer with a time of 1:00.48.
Fay added a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 11:23.15. McHale was second behind Fogarty in the 100 fly with a time of 1:02.96. Schwarzwalder placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:27.39. Lindsay Cronin (Arlington, Va. / Washington & Lee) recorded the final second place finish for Hood, swimming a time of 1:20.68 in thr 100-yard breastsroke.
Cronin added two thirds, one in the 100 freestyle (1:03.99) and the 200 freestlye (2:15.50). McHale finished third in the 50 free with a time of 27.33. Langer added a third in the 200 IM touching the wall in 2:28.37. Schwarzwalder placed third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.89), and Griffin had a third in the 500 free (5:41.23). Brittany Whitham (Fort Collins, Colo. / Resurrection Christian) finished third in the 1000 free with a time of 12:26.46.
The Blazers are off until January 25 when they travel to Misericordia to take on the Cougars.
