Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Sophomore Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) tied the school record by scoring in his sixth straight match and the goal held up as Hood College won its eighth match of the year to tie another school mark in a 1-0 victory over Widener.
The two teams combined for 12 shots during a scoreless first half as the defenses held firm.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Demich took the ball on a breakaway down the right side and fired a shot from the top of the box to break the deadlock.
After Demich's tally at 55', the Blazer defense, led by Christiano Pillari (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North), Kyle Bulgarelli (York, Pa. / York Suburban), Kyle Toepfer (Prince Frederick, Md. / St. Mary's Ryken) and Mitchell Mattox (Pasadena, Md. / Chesapeake), kept the Pride at bay, allowing just two shots over the final 35 minutes. Tori Remondelli had Widener's final chance of the afternoon in the 83rd minute, but Henry Mills (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) made a diving stop on a shot to the far post.
Mills finished with three saves en route to his third shutout of the year.
Before the match, Hood honored seniors Ryan Deuber (Timonium, Md. / Dulaney) and Mitchell Stenersen (Boonsboro, Md. / Boonsboro) for their contributions to the program.
With goals in six straight matches, Demich tied the school record set by Guillaume Farges in 2005. Demich has 11 goals on the season, tied for the second most in a season at Hood and just one off the school record. His 24 points are tied for the third best season in program history.
The Blazers eight wins tied the school record set by both the 2005 and 2006 squads.
Demich continued to climb the career leaderboards and now ranks fifth in points (32) and tied for fourth in goals (14).
The Blazers travel to No. 1 Messiah on October 22 at 7 p.m.
