Demich's Hat Trick Leads Hood Past Marymount (Va.)

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) tied the school record with three goals to lead Hood to a 5-0 win over visiting Marymount (Va.) in non-conference action.

Demich became the fourth player in Blazer history to record a hat trick and the first since Chris Mendez in 2010.

Christiano Pillari (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) scored Hood's first goal during the third minute. Kenton Onspaugh (Ijamsville, Md. / Oakdale) came down the left side and centered the ball to the sophomore, who booted it into the left side of the net.

Demich recorded his first marker of the afternoon late in the 10th minute. Nick Chalk (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) centered the ball and Demich stopped it and beat a defender for a 2-0 lead.

The Blazers added one more goal before the intermission for a 3-0 lead at halftime. Joseph Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) sent a through ball to Colin Viti (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin), who beat the keeper one-on-one.

Demich scored twice in a span of less than seven minutes in the second half to ice the win. Juliano Pillari (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) had a shot deflected by the keeper and Demich knocked it home for the score in the 60th minute. At exactly the 65 minute mark, the sophomore completed the hat trick after working through the Saints defense and shooting into the middle of the goal.

Meanwhile, the Blazers' defense kept the chances off freshman goalkeeper Henry Mills (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora), who notched his first career shutout. The starting back line of Mitchell Mattox (Pasadena, Md. / Chesapeake), Kyle Toepfer (Prince Frederick, Md. / St. Mary's Ryken), Joe Fawley (Knoxville, Md. / Brunswick) and Kyle Bulgarelli (York, Pa. / York Suburban) spearheaded a defensive unit that held Marymount without a shot on goal.

Logan Cropper had seven saves in goal for the Saints.

Hood outshot Marymount 37-6 in the contest.

The Blazers five wins this season match the total from all of last year. The team's five goals are the most in a match during 2014.

Hood hosts Albright on October 4 in the Blazers' Commonwealth Conference opener.
