SCOUTING HOOD
The Blazers are 4-12 overall and 2-5 in the Commonwealth Conference. Senior Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) leads Hood, averaging a double-double with 11.8 points per game and 12.1 rebounds per contest, along with 30 blocked shots. Classmate Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) adds 8.2 points per game, shoots 76 percent at the free throw line and leads the team with 40 steals. Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) has a team-high 33 assists.
LAST TIME OUT
Wiley had her seventh double-double of the year, but the Blazers fell to Albright in a conference game, 68-60. The senior had 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 14 rebounds. She added two steals and two blocks. Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) had a season-high 14 points and was 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Kessler added 10 points and Smith had four assists. Hood outrebounded the Lions 45-44.
SCOUTING MESSIAH
Messiah is 8-8 overall and 4-3 in the Commonwealth Conference after a 68-53 win over Arcadia. The Falcons are led in scoring by Gillian Glackin with 14.6 ppg and averages 10.6 rebounds per game. Slenna Wisse adds 8.9 ppg, 23 steals and a team-high 37 assists. Kaitlyn Hoff is a threat from the foul line, making 89 percent of her free throws and adds 33 assists.
LAST SEASON
Hood dropped both games against Messiah last season. On December 11, Smith led the Blazers with 14 points and two assists in a 74-39 loss. Wiley had six boards and Kessler added three steals. Brittney George (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) went 4-of-4 from the fould line. On January 25, the Blazers fell 77-40. Wiley led the Blazers with 11 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high four blocks. George finished the game with seven points and six rebounds. Smith and Appleby both added six points.
