Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 final to visiting Messiah in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener for both sides.
On a cold, wet Homecoming Saturday at Thomas Athletic Field, the two sides were scoreless before David Alejos found Nick West in the 31st minute for a 1-0 lead.
The score held until the 50th minute. Benji Kennel took an assist from Samuel Ruiz Plaza for a two-goal lead. An own goal made it 3-0 seven minutes later.
Early in the 63rd minute, Joe Fawley (Knoxville, Md. / Brunswick) found Alec van Bronkhorst (Gaithersburg, Md. / Watkins Mill) for the freshman's second goal of the year to get the Blazers on the board.
Alejos picked up his second assist of the match in the 76th minute, connecting with Will Cochran for a behind-the-back goal.
Joe Centeno (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) made eight saves for Hood. Jonathan Weaver stopped two shots for the Falcons.
Hood will look to get back in the win column on October 6 against Juniata at 4 p.m.
