Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Numerous records were broken during the Hood College men's soccer team's 3-0 win over visiting Juniata.
Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) scored the Blazers' first two goals to set the career goals record with 31, breaking Thomas Noonan's record of 30. The junior finished the game with 36 points so far this season, surpassing Noonan's standard of 34 from 2006. It was also Demich's fourth game-winner of the season, tying a mark held by both Chris Mendez and Guillaume Farges.
Demich reclaimed the Division III scoring lead with the two-goal effort. His 17 goals are one more than Finlandia's Alex Freeman.
For the team, it was the ninth victory of the season, breaking the record of eight set three times. The fifth shutout of the year tied the school record for a season.
Demich scored the game-winner and tied the career mark in the third minute. After a goal kick, the ball found its way to Alec van Bronkhorst (Gaithersburg, Md. / Watkins Mill), who slipped it to Joe Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) for a quick tap to Demich on a run to the right side side of the box.
Late in the 28th minute, Demich broke the record. After a foul near the left corner, Paul Windsor (Mount Airy, Md. / Urbana) took the ensuing free kick. The ball sailed off the far post and bounced to Demich. The junior headed the ball, which crossed the line before it was cleared by a defender.
Hood's two-goal lead stood until the 76th minute. After a hand ball in the box, Colin Viti (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) converted a penalty kick for a 3-0 lead.
Joe Centeno (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) made four saves en route to his third shutout of the season. It was his ninth win in net, a new school record for a season.
