Slow Start Haunts Women's Basketball at EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Eastern Mennonite jumped out to a 17-5 lead after the first quarter and went on to defeat Hood College, 81-44, in non-conference women's basketball.

Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) led Hood with 13 points and was one of three Blazers with five rebounds. Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / Waldorf) dished out seven assists. Shannon O'Meara (Monroe, Conn. / St. Joseph) and Jasmine Webster (Warrenton, Va. / Kettle Run) both had three steals off the bench. 

Sa'Mone Moore had a game-high 22 points, hitting 4-of-8 3-point field goals in the game as the Royals shot 41 percent beyond the arc in the contest. Jess Rheinheimer added 17 points and went 9-of-10 at the free throw line. Rheinheimer and Myneshia Walker had five steals apiece. 

Hood forced EMU into 29 turnovers, but was undone by 31 miscues of their own.

The Blazers are idle until January 2, when they travel to Arcadia for a 1 p.m. tip off.
