Box Score READING, Pa. - The Hood College men's basketball nearly erased a 15-point deficit in the second half, but Albright had just enough answers to pull out a 63-56 win in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) led the Blazers with 16 points. A pair of freshmen, Daniel Wegener (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Broadfording Christian (Md.)) and Michael Robinson (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Pallotti) scored 10 apiece. Wegener and another freshman, Jared Ruiz (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale), each had six rebounds.
A 3-pointer by Dejaun Smith put the Blazers in a 40-25 hole with 14:33 to play. Robinson scored the game's next five points to pull Hood within 10 and to begin the Blazers' comeback bid. A Tanner Ruths' (Stephens City, Va. / Sherando) bucket followed to cut the deficit to single digits, 40-32 with 13 minutes to go. After a 3-pointer by Omari Ringgold stretched Albright's lead back to 11, 54-43, Hood answered with a run. After Hill hit two free throws, a layup by Ruiz cut it to 54-47. With 7:30 left, Hill knocked down a three to pull the Blazers within four.
From there the two defenses began to take control with just four total points over the next four minutes. A basket by the Lions' Evan Ward made it a six-point game, before Wegener cut it to 56-52 with 3:34 remaining. Ringgold scored five points during a 7-0 run that followed to put the game out of reach.
Ringgold led all players with 19 points, hitting 4-of-8 3-pointers. Ward had 14 points, while Smith added a dozen. Jaylin Calloway gave Albright four players in double figures with 11 points. Josh Marquez handed out four assists.
While Albright hit 8-of-20 3-point field goals in the contest, Hood kept it close with a 36-20 scoring advantage in the paint.
The Blazers host Widener on Saturday, December 5 at 3 p.m. at BB&T Arena.
