Hood Shoots Way to Fourth Straight Win, Playoff Bid

READING, Pa. - Hood College's Chris Cook (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) and Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) combined to hit 9-of-17 3-point field goals to lead the Blazers to a 71-59 victory at Albright in Commonwealth Conference action.

The win was Hood's fourth in a row and clinched a bid to the Commonwealth Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. Wins by Alvernia and Arcadia and a loss by Stevenson created a four-way tie for second place with matching 9-6 records. Lycoming leads the pack with a 13-3 conference mark.

Cook scored a game-high 24 points, knocking down 5-of-8 threes in the game (63 percent). He was 7-of-16 shooting overall and hit 5-of-6 free throws. Hill shot 4-of-9 from long range and finished with 17 points and five assists. Terell Buyck (Forestville, Md. / Bishop McNamara) scored all 11 of his points in the second half. Reggie Daniels (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) added 10 rebounds and two blocks.

As a team, Hood hit 10-of-25 from 3-point range in the game (40 percent). The Blazers executed flawlessly for much of the evening, committing just seven turnovers, their second-best mark of the year. 

The two teams combined for seven lead changes and five ties in the first half. The last lead change came when Cook hit a three for a 28-27 Hood lead with 2:06 remaining in the period. The Lions beat the press off the in-bounds play, but Daniels came up with two big blocked shots to prevent Albright from regaining the lead. Cook scored five more points before the end of the half to give the Blazers a 33-29 lead at the break.

A jumper by Evan Ward pulled the Lions within a basket, 35-33, early in the second half. Cook scored six points during a 12-4 run that stretched Hood's lead to 47-37 with under 13 minutes to go in the game. 

Albright chipped into the lead and trailed by just six when Ward scored to make it 47-41, with 11:21 on the game clock. A put back by Luke Casey (Nanticoke, Pa. / Crestwood) started an 15-6 run, extending the lead to 62-47 on a layup by Buyck with just under seven minutes to play.

Ward was 6-of-10 from the field and finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Omari Ringgold added 14 points. 

Both teams shot well from the free throw line. Albright was a perfect 10-of-10, while Hood was 11-of-14 (79 percent).

The Blazers held a slim 35-32 edge in rebounding. 

Hood hosts Messiah on Senior Day on February 21 at 3 p.m. in its regular season finale.
