Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's senior class of Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora), Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) and Briana Lee (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) combined for 38 points on Senior Day, but it was not enough as Messiah escaped BB&T Arena with a 63-56 win.
Wiley paced the Blazers with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Kessler and Lee contributed big games, as well. Kessler added 13 points of her own and collected a team-high nine rebounds. Lee notched 11 points while grabbing five rebounds and three steals. She also had three assists in the game.
The Falcons held a small lead for most of the first half. They took a 26-18 lead with just over three minutes remaining before the Blazers went on a 10-2 run to close out the half. The run began with back-to-back 3-pointers by Lee. The half ended with the score tied 28-28.
The Blazers started the second half on a 6-0 run, taking a 34-28 advantage after just one and a half minutes of play. Messiah would battle back to tie the game 34-34 with just over 16:30 left in regulation. The game was tied again 10:26 remaining in the second half when Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) knocked down two free throws lock the teams at 42-42. After losing the lead, the Blazers got back to within one point with 8:29 remaining after Wiley made two free throws, to make it 46-45. While the game stayed tight, the Falcons would never squander the lead winning the game 63-56.
Jen Fairbanks led the Falcons with 18 points off the bench on 7-of-10 shooting. Gillian Glackin added 12 points and 16 rebounds. Hannah Nichols notched 12 points and secured six rebounds.
The Blazers outrebounded the Falcons 48-43 in the contest.
Wiley finishes her career second all-time at Hood in rebounding with 908 boards and blocked shots with 177. Kessler's 155 career steals are fifth in the Blazer records.
The loss marks the final game of the 2014-2015 campaign for the Blazers.
