Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - A second half run by Stevenson proved too much to overcome as Hood fell 68-53 in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.
Chris Cook (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) finished with a game-high 19 points and added four steals. Reggie Daniels (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) had seven rebounds and Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) dished out three assists.
Down six at the half, Hood opened with an 11-5 run to tie the score at 38-38. Sean Farr got a rebound but fell down under the basket. Cook swiped the ball from the forward and brought Hood within two at 38-36. James Brown (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Country Day) and Trevor Magnuski (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) worked a give-and-go for the tying basket with 16:35 left in the game.
Stevenson followed with a back-breaking run that built a 62-44 lead with under seven minutes to play.
Cook sank a 3-point field goal, got a steal and Magnuski knocked down a jumper to get Hood within 62-49 with five minutes left. Hill later hit two free throws to close the gap to 62-52, but the Blazers could get no closer.
The Mustangs used 13 offensive rebounds in the first half to account for 14 points and led by as many as 10 points. Sean Farr made a layup that gave Stevenson a 21-11 lead with less than nine minutes left in the half. Cook immediately answered with a 3-point field goal.
Later in the half, Hill hit a 3-pointer to pull Hood within 23-19 with 4:49 to go. The Mustangs stretched the lead back out to eight, but Cook got his own rebound twice during a possession in the final minute. His put back accounted for the last of his 10 first half points to make it 33-27 at the break.
Farr had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Mustangs. Erik Fisher added 13 points and 10 boards and Justin Kuntz had 10 rebounds. Farr and Kuntz each blocked three shots.
With the loss Hood falls to 14-12 on the season.
