Chris Cook Named Honorable Mention All-American by DIII News

Hood College senior Chris Cook (Mechanicsville, Va. / Lee-Davis) was named an All-American Honorable Mention by DIII News.

It is just the latest in a growing list of honors for the senior guard. He was voted to the D3hoops.com All-Middle Atlantic Region First Team and the the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-Middle Atlantic District First Team.

Earlier this year, Cook was named as a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, the first finalist for the award in school history. He was also named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year and was voted to the All-Commonwealth First Team.

The senior ranked second in the conference in points per game (20.0), points scored (561) and free throws made (167). He also rates among the Commonwealth Conference leaders in steals (third, 53), 3-point field goal percentage (fourth, .391), and free throw percentage (sixth, .795).

Cook topped 30 points three times this season, including a career-high 32 at Johns Hopkins on January 3. Including his three 30-plus point efforts, he scored 20 or more in 14 of the team's 28 games.

After his performance in the Rotary of Frederick Holiday Classic in December, he was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week, the ECAC Division III South Player of the Week, the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week and earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.

It was the first of of three Commonwealth Conference weekly awards for Cook, who also received the honor in each of the final two weeks of the regular season.

His 561 points this season are the third most in school history and are the most since the 2006-07 season. Cook's scoring average is sixth in the Blazer records for an individual season. The 167 made free throws are the second-highest single season total at Hood and the most since the program's second season, 2004-05. With 56 steals, he has the fourth most in a year in school history. Cook is also among the all-time season leaders in field goals (fifth, 170) and 3-point field goals (seventh, 54) made.

In just his second season at Hood, Cook has also worked his way up the school's career leaderboards. He ranks among the Blazers' all-time leaders in points (sixth, 912), scoring average (third, 16.0), field goals made (tenth, 280), 3-point field goals made (seventh, 81), 3-point field goal percentage (fourth, .382), free throws made (fourth, 351), free throw percentage (sixth, .772), assists (tenth, 126) and steals (sixth, 99).
