Box Score LATROBE, Pa. - Six different players scored goals in Hood College's 6-0 win at St. Vincent.
Joe Benton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) finished with four points, scoring once and assisting on two other goals. Drew Demich (Jefferson, Md. / Brunswick) had a goal and an assist.
Hood got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute. Kenton Onspaugh (Ijamsville, Md. / Oakdale) sent a cross to Romo Monarrez (Guadalajara, Mexico / West Nottingham Academy (Md.)), who drove it in for a 1-0 lead and his second score of the year.
Benton scored off an assist from Demich in the 27th minute for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Blazers erupted for four second half goals to remove any doubt. Demich scored unassisted in the 53rd minute for a three-goal lead. The marker made him just the fourth player in program history with 20 career goals.
Benton's two assists fueled a three-goal, seven-minute spree late in the contest. He fed Mitchell Mattox (Pasadena, Md. / Chesapeake) in the 67th minute and Alec van Bronkhorst (Gaithersburg, Md. / Watkins Mill) six minutes later. Colin Viti (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) capped the scoring in the 74th minute with an unassisted marker for a 6-0 advantage.
Joe Centeno (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) needed just one save in the opening 75 minutes. Stephen Friend (Bel Air, Md. / St. Peter (Minn.)) made his Hood debut and was untested over the final 15 minutes.
Jon White made 12 saves for the Bearcats.
The Blazers held a 33-7 edge in shots in the match. For the weekend, Hood dominated its opposition. Including Saturday's win over St. Vincent, the Blazers outshot the opposition 63-9 in two victories.
Hood's 4-2 start matches last season's beginning as the second best six-match start in school history.
A match with Penn State Mont Alto on September 17 starts a three-game homestand for the Blazers. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
