Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College volleyball won both ends of a tri-match, defeating both Penn State-Harrisburg and Penn State Schuylkill.
Scores against Harrisburg were 31-29, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19. The Blazers dispatched Schuylkill 25-1, 25-13, 25-14.
Payton Belella's (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) 46 assists in the opener were the third most in school history. Elena Young (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) had 31 total kills and hit .489 for the day. Hood's margin of victory in the first set against Schuylkill was the largest in program history.
HOOD 3, PENN STATE HARRISBURG 1
Hood had 59 kills as Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick), Young and Caroline Kinna (Frederick, Md. / Walkersville) each had double figures in the four-set win.
Betson had 19 kills and added five blocks. Young hit .464 and had 17 kills and four blocks. Kinna finished with 10 kills. 
The output helped Belella continue her assault on the school record books. She added 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Courtney Hutchinson (Burtonsville, Md. / Blake) led the team with five blocks. Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane) tallied 14 digs and three blocks. 
The first set was a marathon as the sides combined for 60 points. After Harrisburg evened things at one set apiece, the Blazers managed to avoid a fifth set with wins in sets three and four.
Madison Chace led Harrisburg with 11 kills and four blocks. Casey Stump dished out 30 assists. Samantha Hines paced the squad with 12 digs and four aces.
HOOD 3, PENN STATE SCHUYLKILL 0
The Blazers had 20 kills in the match before their first attack error, which came during the second set. Hood hit for its highest percentage since the 2009 season with a .381 mark.
Young hit .526 in the match, with 12 kills against just two errors on 19 swings.
The Blazers' service game was on all match as Hood served up 14 aces in the match. Jones led the team with five and Telka Schmidt (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Bay Ridge Prep) added four. 
Belella finished with 20 assists. Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) led the team with 13 digs. 
Hood hit 10-of-12 (.833) in the first set and won the first eight points of the match. After a kill by Schuylkill's Sydney Hoopman, the service of Jones took over the set. All five of her aces came during a 17-point run to end the set.
Kristina Johnson had six kills for Schuylkill. Michelle O'Dell added 10 assists.
The Blazers will look to stay in the win column when they travel to Widener on September 29.
