Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Hood College men's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals on its way to a 2-1 victory over Marymount (Va.) at the UMW Soccer Classic.
The win improved Hood to 2-0 on the year, the first time in school history the squad has started a season with consecutive victories.
Romo Monarrez (Guadalajara, Mexico / West Nottingham Academy (Md.)) gave the Blazers an early lead with a goal in the ninth minute, assisted by Kenton Onspaugh (Ijamsville, Md. / Oakdale). Matt Viti (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) took a Ryan Tutzauer (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) assist in the 44th minute to extend the lead to 2-0 at the half.
It was the first career score for both freshmen.
The Blazers outshot the Saints 11-2 in the half and went on to hold a 15-8 for the match.
Just eight minutes after play resumed, in the 53rd minute, Max Milone cut Hood's lead in half with an assist from John-Paul Orozco.
Joe Centeno (Mount Airy, Md. / Linganore) made two saves in net for the Blazers.
Logan Cropper stopped six shots for Marymount.
Hood will look to continue its strong start to the season with a match against the hosts from Mary Washington on the final day of the UMW Soccer Classic on September 6.
