Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College shot 53 percent from the field and went 9-of-13 (69 percent) from 3-point range in a 76-52 victory over Messiah in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
Hood's defense, meanwhile, limited the Falcons to just 28 percent shooting and held the starting lineup to just 21 points.
Ian Eversull (Ijamsville, Md. / Urbana) scored a career-high 17 points. He knocked down 5-of-6 field goals and 6-of-8 free throws. Daniel Wegener (Falling Waters, W.Va. / Broadfording Christian (Md.)) had career-bests with 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Jared Ruiz (Frederick, Md. / Oakdale) added 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting with nine rebounds and four assists. Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) scored 13 points, hitting 5-of-8 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers. Tanner Ruths (Stephens City, Va. / Sherando) had 10 points off the bench and Michael Robinson (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Pallotti) finished with five steals. Jeffrey Monfort (Wicomico, Md. / Wicomico) scored his first three career points.
The Falcons took an early 7-3 lead before Hood went on a 13-2 run to take a 16-9 advantage after a Hill jumper with 13 minutes, 11 seconds remaining in the half.
The Blazers led 36-29 at halftime, then opened the second half with a 20-6 run for a 56-35 lead with 13:42 left. Hood's biggest lead came with 32 seconds left on a Ruiz three for a 76-48 advantage before Messiah scored the game's final four points.
Reserve Logan Long scored 14 points to lead Messiah. Neil Murren added 11 points. Long and Geoff Boyle grabbed six boards apiece.
Hood held a 42-37 edge on the glass. The Falcons went just 7-of-35 from 3-point range.
The Blazers are idle until heading to Stevenson on January 20 at 8 p.m.
