Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team hit seven of its last nine 3-point field goals during regulation and overtime to wipe out an 18-point fourth quarter deficit in a 72-70 win over Eastern Mennonite.

Hood's reserves helped fuel the comeback. Deaja Colden and Shannon O'Meara came off the bench to shoot a combined 11 of 12 and scored 26 points. O'Meara hit 4 of 5 threes and finished with 14 points, while Colden hit all six of her field goals on the way to 12 points.

A layup by Jess Washington stretched the Royals' lead to 48-30 with 9:21 left in the game. O'Meara followed with a pair of 3-pointers to open a 28-5 run. She scored nine points and Colden added five during the run as Hood (5-5) began to chip away.

Ebony Pitt made a pair of free throws to tie the game at 51-51, then knocked down a step-back 3-pointer for the Blazers' first lead of the game, 54-53 with 3:27 remaining. Baskets by Taylor McGaughey and Colden stretched the lead to 58-53 before EMU (4-4) scored the game's final five points of regulation to force overtime.

The Blazers shot 11 of 14 from the floor in the fourth quarter (79 percent), including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Hood heated back up in overtime as threes by Allie Appleby, McGaughey and O'Meara gave the Blazers a 67-58 lead with 1:48 on the clock. Just as in regulation, the Royals cut back into Hood's edge and trailed by only one, 71-70, after a three-point play by Washington with six seconds left. After Celina Herndon made 1 of 2 free throws, a desperation heave was off the mark by EMU.

McGaughey tied O'Meara for team-high honors with 14 points. Pitt scored a dozen points before fouling out. Appleby had a game-high six assists.

Washington did her best to keep the Royals in the game with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Lexi Deffenbaugh scored 19 points, while Jourdyn Friend came off the bench for 14 rebounds.

Eastern Mennonite led 29-22 at halftime and outscored the Blazers 17-8 in the third quarter to go ahead 46-30.

Hood shot 44 percent in the game and finished 8 of 22 from 3-point range (36 percent). The Royals shot just 34 percent overall and went 3 of 14 from behind the arc. The Blazer bench outscored its counterparts 33-13, but EMU stayed in the game with a 24-4 advantage in second chance points.

The Blazers will look to stay in the win column on December 29-30 at the Susan Dunagan Classic at Roanoke.
