Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Hood College women's basketball team fell in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest at Messiah, 92-43.
Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) led Hood with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting and connected on 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) and Denisha Robinson (Richmond, Va. / Midlothian) each had seven rebounds. Shannon O'Meara (Monroe, Conn. / St. Joseph) came off the bench for eight points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Messiah led 18-4 after the first period and never looked back. Hood's offense improved in the second quarter, but the Blazers were unable to cut into the lead and trailed 36-15 at halftime.
The Falcons, who shot 52 percent from the field, had four players who scored in double figures. Kaitlyn Hoff shot 6-of-8 on her way to a game-high 14 points. Jen Fairbanks, Maci Thornton and Alecia Rohrer scored 11 apiece. Rohrer grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots. Dominique Seamon had four assists and four steals.
Hood won the rebounding battle, 51-40, but turned the ball over 36 times.
The Blazers travel to Lycoming on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a 1 p.m. tip off.
