Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's volleyball team dropped the first set, but rebounded to win the next three for a 3-1 victory against Penn St.-Harrisburg in the season opener for both teams.
Set scores were 22-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-19.
Kari Betson led the Blazers with 13 kills and 17 digs, while serving up three aces. Elena Zinaich had 12 kills and four blocks. Enriquez matched Zinaich's 12 kills and added a team-high four service aces. Payton Belella notched 32 assists and 14 digs. Kelsey Ritner had three service aces and Courtney Hutchinson tallied three blocks.
The Nittany Lions' Brittany Wolfe had a match-high 19 kills and led the team with 15 digs. Casey Stump had 36 assists and 11 digs.
After dropping the first set, Hood led 8-6 in the second set before a PSUH service error started a 8-1 run for the Blazers. Enriquez had two kills and an ace in the run.
Hood led by as many as 10 in the third set before the Nittany Lions pulled within 23-20 on a ball handling error by the Blazers. Caroline Kinna came up big on the next two points with a kill and a block assist to close out the set. She teamed with Zinaich on the set clinching rejection.
Kinna later added two kills during a 5-1 run to end the decisive fourth set.
Hood heads to the Eastern Mennonite Invitational on September 2-3.
