Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's defense gave third-ranked Messiah all it could handle until a long through ball found the Falcons' Nick West, who beat the buzzer for a 1-0 win in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
How it Happened
- With the final seconds ticking away, Kirby Robbins sent a long through ball ahead and West managed to finish with 1.2 seconds to play for the match's only goal.
- The match was a showcase for the defenses and both sides were up to the occasion. Each team had field players clear balls off the line to keep the game scoreless. A shot by Messiah in the eighth minute was saved by defender Cameron Tyler. At the end of the 20th minute a shot by Hood's Kyle Bulgarelli was saved, but not controlled and cleared off the line by the Falcon defense. Hood held a 5-3 advantage on shots early before the Falcons went into the half with a 9-5 advantage.
- Neither team had a shot for the first 13 minutes of the second half. Robbins had the first shot of the half in the 59th minute and AJ Lewis stepped in for the team save. Three minutes later, Danny Castillo stopped a shot and Matt Viti cleared the ball off the line.
