Men's soccer wins season opener; Putnam ties record

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's soccer team opened the season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Penn College in the Hood Soccer Tournament. 

The victory was the 48th on the sideline for Blazer head coach Kenny Putnam, tying Brian Wall for the most in school history.

How it Happened

  • Waugh scored in the 29th minute off an assist from Lewis for a 1-0 lead. 
  • Eyler scored his first goal at Hood in the 35th minute as Hood took a 2-0 advantage into halftime. 
  • The Wildcats cut the Blazers' lead in half with a score by Derek Eckman in the 76th minute. 
  • Shekanino iced the match four minutes later when he converted a penalty kick.

  • Brendan Skwirut made four saves. 
  • Both teams had 10 shots. 
  • Hood is 1-0, while Penn College dropped to 0-1.
