Quick strike offense propels men's soccer past Cougars

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Hood College's Clay Smith scored the fastest goal in program history and the Blazers added another in the third minute on the way to a 4-1 victory at Chatham.

How it Happened

  • Smith scored just 21 seconds into the action after the Cougars gave up possession deep in their own end. It broke the old record of 27 seconds by Marcelino Rabara in 2005. 
  • Salgado made it a two-goal cushion late in the third minute with an assist by Smith for a 2-0 lead. 
  • It did not take long for the Blazers to extend the lead further. At the end of the 12th minute, Coeto sent a punt downfield that ended up at the feet of Shekanino, who scored from outside the box for a three-goal lead. 
  • Chatham got on the board in the 21st minute when Edgar Interiano-Lemus scored and Hood went into halftime ahead 3-1.
  • Shekanino stretched the lead back to three just after play resumed, scoring his second of the afternoon in the 48th minute.

  • Cory Wyatt made nine saves for Chatham. 
  • Hood took 27 shots in the match. 
  • Shane Steele-Quintanilla played the final four minutes in goal for Hood. 
  • The Blazers improved to 4-1-1 on the year, while Chatham is 2-3.
