Michael Riley became the second Blazer this year to reach 1,000 points and
Evan Wang set the single season assist record in a 93-73 win over Stevenson in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play.
Records and Milestones
- Riley entered the game with 984 points and scored exactly the 16 he needed for the milestone. His 1,000th came on a layup with 14:07 left in the game.
- Wang had eight assists in the game but it was his first that gave him the record. He had been tied with Darnell Edmonds 120 from 2006-07 and needed only 18 seconds to break the tie. Off the opening tip, he hit Tyler Evans for a jumper. Wang did not turn the ball over and finished with 12 points.
Inside the Box Score
- Mason Wang and Christopher Smalls tied for the team-high with 18 points apiece. Wang went 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and had three steals. Smalls netted a career-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and connected on 2-of-5 3-pointers.
- Evans scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
How it Happened
- The record-setting assist to open the game sparked a 21-6 run to open the game. Evans scored eight points during the run as seven Blazers scored during the opening nine minutes.
- The Mustangs later cut it to 29-21 with 5:23 to go in the first half. Hood closed the half with an 18-8 run. Riley scored half of Hood's points during the finals five minutes and a layup by Smalls with two seconds on the clock made it 46-28 at halftime.
- A 16-4 run midway through the second half gave Hood a 38-point lead, 88-50, on a bucket by Brice Moore with 7:56 remaining.
Analysis
- Hood turned the ball over just nine times in the game and held a 25-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
- The Blazers had 18 fast break points.
For the Opponents
- Mark Terrell had a game-high 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
- Cam Harris scored 10 points on 4-of-7 from the floor and five assists.
Notes
- With the win, Hood improved to 15-9 overall and 8-7 in the MAC Commonwealth.
- The Blazers are currently a half game ahead of Alvernia for the fifth and final spot in the conference tournament. The Golden Wolves lost to Albright 81-75 and finishes its conference slate 8-8. Hood needs a win in the season finale against Widener on Saturday, February 22 to clinch a tournament bid.
- Riley is the sixth player to score 1,000 career points at Hood and joins teammate Mason Wang in the exclusive club after Wang reached 1,000 earlier this season.
