SALISBURY, Md. - The Hood College softball team dropped a pair of games, falling 2-0 to DeSales and 19-1 in a game stopped after five innings to Salisbury.
At the Plate
- Jules Baker walked three times out of the leadoff spot, including twice against the Sea Gulls.
- Caitlin Gosline had a hit in both games and drove in the Blazers' lone run.
- Colleen Blasko scored Hood's run.
Inside the Circle
- Kiley Banks was outdueled by the Bulldogs' Shannon Hill in the opener. Banks threw a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and four walks. She struck out four.
- Belle Bortner took the loss in game two.
DeSales 2, Hood 0
- The Bulldogs scored both of their runs with two outs in the first inning. Sam Napoli singled with one out and scored on a two-out base hit by Hallie Muffley. Muffley then stole second and was driven in by Alexa Marasheshki's RBI single.
- Banks retired 12 of the next 14 hitters she faced to keep Hood in the game. DeSales loaded the bases in the sixth before Banks recorded the third out to escape the jam.
- Hood's best chance came in the second inning. Bortner singled with one out and Lindsay Wilson followed with a walk to put two runners on. Banks kept the inning going with a two-out single to load the bases before Hill induced a flyout to end the inning.
- Gosline, Bortner and Banks had hits for Hood.
- Hill pitched a complete game shutout for the Bulldogs. She allowed just three hits and two walks, striking out seven.
Salisbury 19, Hood 1 (5 innings)
- The Sea Gulls scored nine runs in the first inning to put the game out of reach early. Salisbury had seven RBI singles in the opening frame, including a two-run base hit by Alissa Saverino.
- Jillian Jones had a two-run double during a three-run second inning to make it 12-0 and the Sea Gulls scored four more runs in the third and three in the fourth.
- Hood scored its only run in the fifth. Brittany Gates pinch hit and led off the inning with a single. Baker walked and Cailyn Barthlow singled to load the bases. Gosline followed with an RBI single with no one out. Alexis Black recorded a strike out and a double play to pitch out of trouble.
- In addition to hits by Gates, Barthlow and Gosline, Angela Acampora added a single for Hood.
- Dakota Fraley finished 3-for-4, scored twice and drove in three. Jones went 3-for-3, doubled twice and knocked in two.
