Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - A long 3-pointer by Hood College's
Mason Wang was just long at the buzzer, as Lycoming held on to outlast the Blazers 80-78 in the first round of the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Championships.
Inside the Box Score
- Wang scored 15 points in the second half to finish with a team-high 18 on the evening. He went 10-for-10 at the free throw line, all in the final 20 minutes.
- Evan Wang scored 17 points on a 7-of-14 night shooting. He led the team with five assists.
- Tyler Evans scored 13 points and Christopher Smalls grabbed five rebounds each.

How it Happened
- The first two games between the team were decided by a total of seven points and this game came to an exciting finish as well.
- A pair of free throws by Mason Wang gave Hood its biggest lead, 63-54, with 9:01 to play. Lycoming answered with a 12-2 run to reclaim the lead. The Blazers led 65-62 when Matt Ilodigwe hit a 3-pointer, was fouled, and made the free throw for a 66-65 lead with 6:20 left.
- Butler, who scored eight of his 10 down the stretch, answered with a 3-pointer of his own at 5:11 to swing the lead back in favor of Hood 68-66. Two Dyson Harward foul shots tied the game before Butler drove and beat the shot clock for a 70-68 Hood advantage. With 2:40 on the clock, Harward hit two more free throws and gave the Warriors a 71-70 edge. Butler took the ball to the hoop again on the next possession, was fouled and hit both to once again swing the lead back to the Blazers.
- On Lycoming's next possession, Mo Terry drove the baseline as Harward and Evans became tangled while fighting for position on the block. With nowhere to go as Terry leaped toward the pair, Evans was called for the foul. Terry knocked down the shot and the ensuing free throw for a 74-72 Lycoming lead with 2:13 remaining.
- Butler was again fouled at the other end and hit one to bring Hood within 74-73 with 1:53 to go. Terry hit a free throw at the other end to make it a two-point lead before the Blazers turned the ball over with 47 seconds left. The Warriors ran the clock down and Ryan Hollis hit a 3-pointer to make it 78-73. Hood quickly inbounded the ball and Evan Wang got the ball ahead to Mason for a long 3-pointer in front of the Hood bench, using just three seconds to pull within 78-76. Terry was fouled for Lycoming and sank both foul shots to make it a four-point game with 13 seconds left.
- Michael Riley was fouled shooting a 3-pointer with seven seconds left and hit 2-of-3 to pull within 80-78. Harward could not corral the inbounds pass, giving Hood one last chance with five seconds to play. Several players got tangled up during the Blazers' inbounds play but Hood managed to keep possession, making two passes to Wang, whose desperation shot just missed.
- In the first half, Evan Wang hit a jumper to put Hood ahead 21-15 with 10:50 on the clock. The Warriors answered with an 11-3 run and took a 26-24 lead on a jumper by Darius Dangerfield four minutes later. Wang tied the game for the Blazers at 26-26 and 28-28 but a D'Andre Edmond basket with 3:14 to play in the half made it 30-28 and Hood would trail for the remainder of the period.
- Down 40-37 at halftime, Wang immediately hit a 3-pointer after play resumed to tie the game. It started a 26-14 run for Hood to open the half, fueled by 10 points from Mason Wang. The Blazers went 12-of-13 at the charity stripe during the 11-minute stretch, while the Warriors only went to the line twice.
Analysis
- Hood held Lycoming to just 7-of-28 from 3-point range (25 percent), the third straight game that the Blazers kept their opponent under 30 percent. Hood went 11-of-35 (31 percent).
- The Warriors outscored Hood 34-20 in the paint.
- Both teams took excellent care of the basketball. The Blazers had only eight turnovers, with Lycoming committing 11.
- After the two teams combined for only eight free throws in the first half, they shot 40 total in the second half. Hood finished the game 21-for-26 (81 percent) and the Warriors went 19-for-22 (86 percent).
For the Opponent
- Terry scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting. He added nine rebounds.
- Darius Dangerfield had 16 points and nine assists. Harward added a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Edmond hit all five of his field goals for 10 points.
Notes
- Hood is 16-10 overall and will await word on a bid to the ECAC Tournament.
- Lycoming, 18-8 on the season, will travel to top-seeded Widener on Wednesday, February 26.
