Men's lacrosse storms past Cyclones

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team scored the game's first 10 goals and cruised to an 18-3 win over Centenary to open the Blazers' spring break trip.

Inside the Box Score How it Happened
  • LeBarron fed Upman for the game's first two goals over a period of five and a half minutes to open the game. Hood's scored methodically for most of the quarter before quickly scoring twice in the final 26 seconds of the quarter. Upman added a third goal in the opening period as time expired for a 6-0 lead.
  • Patrick Hurley scored just 51 seconds after play resumed in the second quarter. Combe assisted on the next two goals, one each by Upman and Hand, for a 9-0 advantage with 8:46 to go in the half. After Hand scored again for a 10-goal lead, Timothy Kaiser III got the Cyclones on the board with 6:30 left in the quarter.
  • Upman assisted on two goals in 56 seconds, as Michael Mullen and LeBarron made it 12-1 with four minutes on the clock. Gabe Hendrickson scored at the 1:11 mark to make it 13-1 at halftime.
  • Hood was content to run clock for most of the second half. Combe, Hand and Upman all scored in the third quarter to make it 16-3. In the fourth, Jason Jaworski and Tyler Siglin found the net to cap the scoring.
Analysis
  • The defense turned in one of the stingiest efforts in school history, allowing only eight shots. It was the fewest shots allowed since holding Rosemont to seven shots in 2013.
  • Hood's 22 caused turnovers were its most since the 2013 season.
  • The Blazers 58 ground balls were their most in a game since 2014.
For the Opponent
  • Zeke Giorlando had a goal and an assist for Centenary. Kaiser and Andrew Marchese also scored.
  • JT Doyle caused four turnovers and made 16 saves.
Notes
  • Hood improved to 3-2 on the year.
  • The Cyclones dropped to 0-5.
