Softball concludes spring break trip

LEESBURG, Fla. - The Hood College softball team fell to the College of St. Scholastica 5-4 to conclude their spring break trip to Florida. 

At the Pate Inside the Circle
  • Kiley Banks pitched a complete game in the loss to St. Scholastica. She allowed 11 hits and two walks, striking out seven.
  • Belle Bortner took the loss against Marywood, allowing five runs in two innings. Wilson came on in relief and allowed one earned run over 3.1 innings. 
College of St. Scholastica 5, Hood 4
  • The Saints started off strong when a single from Olivia Howe drove in Nicole Anders in the top of the first for the first run of the game.
  • St. Scholastica expanded on their lead when Hannah Thul singled up the middle, allowing Josie Fourre to score the second run in the top of the second inning.
  • Bortner answered back with an RBI of her own, driving in Bridget Smith with a single to right field in the bottom of the third.
  • Kari Breuer drove in the Saints' third run in the top of the fifth with a single down the left field line.
  • Hood took the lead in the sixth with a three-run inning. Gosline led off with a single and moved to third on an error that allowed Bortner to reach base. Barthlow knocked in a run with a fielder's choice to make it 3-3. Wilson gave the Blazers the lead with an RBI single that knocked in Jules Baker. Hood tried to score a second run on the play but Sydney Plemel threw out a runner at home to end the inning. 
  • An error by Hood allowed the Saints to tie the game in the seventh. In the eighth, Nicole Anders stole second and an error by the Blazers allowed Megan Hautajarvi to scamper home for the go-ahead run.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Acampora singled to move the international tie-break runner, Bortner, to third with one out but St. Scholastica turned a double play to preserve the win. 
  • Olivia Howe went 3-for-5 and Kayla Christopherson finished 2-for-4 for the Saints. 
  • Howe was the starting pitcher and allowed three runs in 5.1 innings. Haley Rosenthal tossed 2.2 innings of relief for the win. 
Marywood 8, Hood 0
  • A four-run second inning for the Pacers broke the game open. Marywood led 1-0 after the first and a two-run single by Lauryn Butler made it 3-0 in the second. She later scored on a wild pitch and Nina Kozar homered to make it 5-0. 
  • Julianna Beidler added a two-run single in the fourth and the game ended on an RBI double from Cait Becher in the sixth. 
  • Acampora led off the second for Hood with a double and, in the fourth, Wilson led off with a single and Barthlow walked but the runners were stranded in both cases. 
  • Acampora and Wilson had two hits apiece. Banks had Hood's other hit. 
  • Kozar had three hits for the Pacers and Hailey Rapisardi added two hits. 
  • Gianna Marsico pitched a complete game shutout. She allowed five hits and a walk over six innings.
