Women's volleyball falls to Falcons

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College overcame a recent string of slow starts, leading Messiah University late in the first set, but the Falcons defeated the Blazers' women's volleyball team 3-0 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match. 

Set Scores
  • The Falcons won 25-22, 25-17, 25-21. 
Inside the Box Score Messiah 25, Hood 22
  • Neither team led by more than two points before Messiah took a 14-11 lead.
  • Ambruster sparked a 10-4 run for Hood, however, with a pair of kills and a block by Malitzki and Walissa Jaque later gave Hood a 21-18 lead. 
  • The Falcons responded with six straight points, reclaiming the lead 24-21. A kill by Jaque halted the run, but Messiah's Mackenzie Feight followed with a kill to end the set. 
Messiah 25, Hood 17
  • The Falcons carried over the momentum from their late run in the first set, jumping ahead 17-5. 
  • Hood outscored Messiah over the rest of the set, pulling within seven on three occasions before the Falcons finished the set to take a 2-0 advantage. 
Messiah 25, Hood 21
  • A block by Malitzki started a three-point spurt for the Blazers that gave Hood an 8-6 lead. 
  • Messiah regrouped and scored the next four points and Hood later faced an 18-14 deficit. 
  • The Blazers were not done, rattling off the next five points, including kills by Carrington Ray and Ambruster and an ace by Katie Amaguana for a 19-18 edge. 
  • The Falcons matched the five-point run, however, and quickly went ahead 23-19. 
Analysis
  • Hood's service game outproduced Messiah's six aces to five. 
  • The Falcons hit .215, compared to .099 for the Blazers. 
For the Opponent
  • Feight led Messiah with 13 kills. 
  • Kristen Siebert dished out 43 assists. 
  • Amanda Dahlman added 18 digs.
