Softball thwarted by Golden Wolves

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College softball team dropped two Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth games against Alvernia University 12-1 and 11-1.

At the Plate Inside the Circle
  • Wilson pitched five innings in game one and allowed 11 hits, striking out one. Belle Bortner came in to relieve in the sixth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.
  • Jordan Long threw a complete second game and allowed 13 hits. She struck out two.
Alvernia 12, Hood 1 (6 Innings)
  • The Golden Wolves scored four of their runs in the fourth inning, starting with an RBI double down the right field line by Riley Shields. Alvernia scored another four runs in the top of the fifth, beginning when Maggie Loomis hit a triple to center field, scoring two.
  • An RBI walk from Henry put the Blazers on the board in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 8-1. Alvernia drove home four more runs in the top of the sixth, when an RBI single from Devan Hudson secured the 12-1 win for the Golden Wolves.
Alvernia 11, Hood 1 (6 Innings)
  • Alyssa Acker started off the scoring for Alvernia with a two-run home run to center field in the top of the first inning. The Golden Wolves scored two more runs in the second inning, extending their lead to four. Hood answered back in the bottom of the second when Wilson scored on a groundout by Gosline.
  • The Golden Wolves scored their last seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, when an RBI single to left field by Tara Tumasz solidified the 11-1 Alvernia win.
Notes
  • Hood is now 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
  • Alvernia improves to 6-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
