Patterson's three-hitter gives baseball split vs. Stevenson

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Jordan Patterson outdueled Stevenson's Matt Reich with a three-hit shutout in game one as the Blazers split a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth doubleheader with the Mustangs. Hood won game one 2-0 but fell 9-6 in game two. 

On the Mound
  • Patterson pitched a seven-inning, complete game shutout. He struck out seven and walked one in game one.
  • Ryan D'Allesandro started game two and went four innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out three.
  • Hood used six different relievers to finish game two. Jahlin Jean-Baptiste pitched a scoreless fifth and Dylan Jaquez tossed a scoreless seventh.  
At the Plate
  • Andrew Wenner reached base four times in the doubleheader, via three hits and a walk. 
  • James DeProspero had a hit in the opener and walked twice in the second game. 
Hood 2, Stevenson 0
  • A two-run fourth proved to be more than enough offense for Patterson. He led off the inning by reaching on an error and later scored the winning run on an RBI single by DeProspero. Wenner, who singled earlier in the inning, came home on a sacrifice fly by Chris Nalley to cap the scoring. 
  • Patterson allowed two hits in the first inning, before retiring 20 of the next 22 hitters he faced. After the two singles in the first inning, he did not allow another hit until the seventh. 
  • Reich also tossed a complete game but took the loss. He gave up three hits and struck out three. 
Stevenson 9, Hood 6
  • Game two looked like another pitcher's duel before the offenses got on the board in the fourth. The Mustangs scored two in the top of the inning on a two-run double from Jonathan Brandt. Hood responded with three runs in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead. Stephen Sommer singled and Wenner walked to start the inning. An error allowed Sommer to score, cutting the deficit in half. After Alex Jenkins knocked in Wenner to tie the game, Nalley crossed home on a passed ball for a one-run lead. 
  • Stevenson reclaimed the lead with a six-run sixth. The Mustangs' first four batters all reached base in the inning, including a two-run single by Will Mesa that made it 4-3. 
  • Nalley had an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-4. 
  • Stevenson added its ninth run in the eighth. Hood rallied with two in the bottom of the inning but could not get closer. Joe Monteleone had an RBI double in the inning and DeProspero scored on a passed ball to make it 9-6. 
  • Wenner went 2-for-4 with a walk and scored three times. Nalley and Monteleone both doubled, while Nalley drove in two. 
  • Jake Vanko got the start and allowed three runs in four innings. Malcolm Edelin picked up the win in relief and Jake Boden tossed a scoreless ninth for the save. 
  • Alex Kidwiler had three hits to lead the offense for SU. 
Notes
  • Hood is 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. 
  • Stevenson is 8-5 overall and 4-2 in the league.
