Men's lacrosse comes up short in quarterfinals

CHESTER, Pa. - The Hood College men's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Quarterfinals in a 16-10 final at fourth-seeded Widener.

  • The Pride came out of the gates quickly, scoring three goals in the game's first four minutes. Sweeney scored his first at 9:14, but Connor Ball answered for Widener one minute later to make it 4-1. Sweeney's second cut the deficit to two with 7:21 to go in the quarter. Widener won the ensuing faceoff and took a quick shot, but Lazorchak saved the ball and Hood transitioned quickly to the offensive end with LeBarron making it 4-3 at 6:53. 
  • Back-to-back goals by Connor Heisman put Widener on top 6-3 after one quarter of play. 
  • Gallagher opened the second quarter scoring at 11:52 off of a feed from LeBarron, but the Pride's Nick Dicicco assisted on consecutive goals to make the score 8-4 with 4:24 to go in the half. 
  • LeBarron found the back of the net with 3:46 left in the second and Kyle Scott found Gallagher with 1:18 to go to bring the Blazers within 8-6 at the half. 
  • Widener pulled away with four straight goals to open the third quarter to take a 12-6 edge on Nick Diiorio's goal at 9:19. 
  • Goals by Sweeney and Hand over the remainder of the quarter helped Hood keep pace but the Pride carried a 13-8 lead into the fourth. 
  • Widener struck first in the fourth quarter before goals from Aidan Gilsdorf and Hand pulled Hood within 14-10 with 6:23 to play. 
  • The Blazers saw the deficit increase to five barely 30 seconds later and a late Hood penalty helped Widener take a 16-10 lead with 2:39 to go.

  • Widener outshot Hood 44-27. 
  • The Pride held a slim 16-14 margin in faceoffs won.
For the Opponent
  • Heisman finished with a game-high six goals and added an assist. 
  • Ball had two goals and three assists. 
  • Carter Landry stopped eight shots in goal. 
Notes
  • Hood ends the shortened spring season with a 4-5 mark, including 3-3 in the MAC Commonwealth. The three conference wins tied the program record and its .500 conference winning percentage is the best in program history.
  • Widener advances to the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals.
