READING, Pa. - The Hood College softball team dropped both games in its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth quarterfinal series opening doubleheader to top-seeded Alvernia. The Golden Wolves eliminate the Blazers in the best-of-three, winning 10-1 and 11-0.
In the Circle
- Lindsay Wilson drew the start in game one and allowed just one run on a hit and two walks in 2.2 innings. She struck out one. Belle Bortner took the loss in relief, allowing the rest of Alvernia's runs in 1.1 innings.
- Wilson also pitched a scoreless inning in relief in game two. Jordan Long started and took the loss, allowing all of the Golden Wolves runs in three innings.
Alvernia 10, Hood 1 (5 innings)
- Angela Acampora's fourth inning double accounted for the Blazers' only run, driving in Bortner, but Alvernia ended the game after five innings.
- Wilson allowed a leadoff triple to Sarah Reinert in the first and Hood quickly turned to Bortner. Maggie Loomis also tripled to make it 1-0 and scored later in the inning as the Golden Wolves took a 3-0 lead.
- A seven-run second inning was too much for the Blazers to overcome. Riley Shields started the scoring with a two-run single and Kerstin Koenig drove in another two runs with Alvernia's third triple of the game. After Wilson returned to the circle for Hood, an RBI groundout by Hope Robinson knocked in the last run of the inning to make it 10-0.
- Shields limited Hood to three hits in five innings, walking two and striking out six to improve to 12-0.
- Acampora had a hit and a walk for Hood.
- Reinert and Koenig had two hits apiece as eight different players hit safely for Alvernia.
Alvernia 11, Hood 0 (5 innings)
- Anna Schipske was the only Blazer to record a hit against Ally Decker, who tossed a one-hit shutout.
- Reinert singled to open the Alvernia first inning and stole second and third. Loomis walked and the duo executed a double steal for the game's first run. Loomis scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning for a 2-0 lead.
- Robinson made it 3-0 with a solo home run in the second that started a five-run inning for the Golden Wolves.
- In the third, Alyssa Acker had a two-run triple and later scored during a four-run frame that made it 11-0.
- Acker was a perfect 3-for-3, drove in three and scored twice. Paige Paciolla also knocked in three, while Loomis scored three times.
