Baseball falls in game three of quarterfinal series

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College baseball team dropped the decisive final game of its best-of-three Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Quarterfinal series to York (Pa.) 7-1.

On the Mound
  • Jake Howell started and took the loss. He allowed six runs, three earned, on eight hits and two walks.
  • Ryan D'Allesandro tossed the final five innings in relief. He gave up just one run on three hits and a walk, striking out two.
At the Plate How it Happened
  • In the bottom of the first, Austin Denlinger singled with one out. Jack Barry's grounder to second was misplayed on the throw to second, allowing both runners to advance safely. Joe Capobianco singled in a run to make it 1-0 and Luke Turner knocked in two more with a double down the left field line.
  • Jayden Cowan added an RBI double in the second to make it 4-0 before the Spartans scored two in the third. Barry led off with a home run to left field. Later in the inning, Jimmy Wiegers was picked off and Capobianco snuck home from third during the rundown to make it 6-0.
  • Hood scored via a Spartan error in the sixth. Sommer and Patterson had back-to-back singles to start the inning. Chris Nalley attempted to sacrifice but Zach Reed threw to third to try to force Sommer and the ball sailed down the left field line. Sommer scored on the play, but York threw out Patterson at home.
  • D'Allesandro retired 11 of the first 12 hitters he faced after entering in the fourth and did not allow a hit until the Spartans strung together three straight singles with two outs in the seventh. Turner had the final hit of the streak, knocking in Capobianco to make it 7-1.
For the Opponent
  • Capobianco went 3-for-4 and scored three times. Turner drove in three.
  • Reed scattered four hits and a walk, striking out one in six innings.
  • Conor Miller pitched the last three innings for his seventh save.
