Homecoming unkind to men's soccer

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's soccer team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth play and wrapped up the three-game Homecoming weekend with a 2-0 loss to the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday. 

Inside the Box Score 
  • JP Wiemann (Centreville, VA/Westfield) lead the Blazers with three shots. 
  • Nick Humphries (Potomac, MD/Potomac) recorded six saves in goal. 
How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first half, the Golden Wolves came out of halftime and scored two goals in the second half of play.
  • Ryan Cogill got the scoring started for Alvernia in the 53rd minute after receiving a long ball from Evan Bauer to make the score 1-0. 
  • At the 82:21 minute mark, Nick Willson secured the 2-0 win over Hood with a goal on a penalty kick. 
  • Hood's best chance to score came in the 60th minute as Hammer headed the ball inches wide of the upper left corner. 
Analysis 
  • Alvernia held the 18-9 advantage in shots and 6-3 in corners. 
For the Opponent 
  • Cogill and Willson both netted goals for the Golden Wolves.
  • Bauer added an assist against the Blazers. 
  • Evan Solley recorded four saves in all 90 minutes played. 
Notes
  • The Blazers fall to 3-5-2 (0-1) while Alvernia improves to 7-1-3 (1-0)
