Early goals lift Stevenson over men's soccer

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's soccer team let up two early goals to Stevenson University in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth contest on Tuesday.

  • Luke Hammer (North East, MD/North East), Anthony Polio (Germantown, MD/Northwest) and JP Wiemann (Centreville, VA/Westfield) all took two shots for Hood. 
  • Nick Humphries (Potomac, MD/Potomac) tallied 12 saves in all 90 minutes played.
How It Happened
  • In the game's seventh minute, Edson DeMata Riberio dodged around the pressure from Humhpries to score the first goal of the game and take the early 1-0 lead over the Blazers. 
  • Exactly four minutes later at 11:44, Illass Zouita found Chris Gonzales who buried the shot to secure the 2-0 win for Stevenson. 
  • Hood's best chance of the game was in the 23rd minute when Paul Hagen (Moseley, VA/Cosby) headed the ball towards goal but Kristian Slaby denied Hagen the chance to score. 
Analysis
  • Stevenson held the advantage in shots 24-11 and corners 6-2 over Hood.
