Mason Wang named NABC All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Hood College's Mason Wang was chosen to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-America Second Team in voting by NABC member coaches across NCAA Division III.

Wang was also voted to the All-District 5 First Team by the NABC. The accolades give Wang his first career All-America nod and his fifth all-region or all-district honor. He was voted all-district second team in 2019-20 and is a three-time all-region team member by D3hoops.com.

This season, he was voted the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Player of the Year and was named the MVP of the conference tournament after leading the Blazers to their first conference tournament championship in school history. The senior guard helped Hood to the second 20-win season in school history, school record for conference victories and the second bid to the NCAA Championships for Hood's men's basketball program.

Wang was named the MAC Commonwealth Player of the Week an incredible eight times in 2021-22 after leading the conference in points per game (22.4), 3-point field goals per game (3.2) free throws made (118), total 3-point field goals (86), total points (606) and steals (62). Nationally, he ranked 12th in points, 17th in scoring average and 17th in total 3-point field goals.

He scored at least 20 points in 18 of Hood's 27 games and reached double figures in every game. In addition to his season-high of 39 points against Albright in December, he poured in 26 in the MAC Commonwealth title game against Eastern and 23 in the NCAA First Round against No. 17 Oswego State.

Wang is the Blazers' all-time leading scorer with 1,969 points, over 300 more than any other player in Hood's program history. Wang is also the Blazers' record holder for field goals made (623) and free throws made (459); while ranking second in points per game (18.4), 3-point field goals (264), free throw percentage (83.3) and steals (178). The senior is fourth in assists at Hood (306) and fifth in 3-point percentage (40.0).

His twin brother Evan Wang joined him on both the All-MAC Commonwealth First Team and D3hoops.com All-Region squads.

Mason Wang is the first All-American in any sport at Hood since Chris Cook of the men's basketball team and Josh Gall of the baseball program were named honorable mentions by DIII News and D3baseball.com, respectively, in 2015.
